you.never.know.
…what other people are going through when they treat you like crap. The co-worker I referred to in my previous post just passed me in the stairwell and said,
“I think I’m going to go blow my brains out in my car.”
On any given day in my office, a minimum of 3 people claim that they are going to kill themselves in some fashion. The most common are:
- I’m going to throw myself out of this window.
- I’m going to blow my brains out.
- I’m going to throw myself into oncoming traffic (our office is right on a highway).
Yes, this is a high stress environment. Please excuse me while I attempt to paper cut myself to death…
five.second.rule.
I once heard my friend Andy mention the “5 second rule.” No, not the one where you drop food and if it’s only on the floor for 5 seconds, it’s still edible. That’s just dirty.
This is a different 5 second rule.
life.is.now.
This is an excerpt from Boundless, an online Christian magazine, as a response to a reader question regarding working too much…
There is no “work now and have a life later.” Life doesn’t wait for you to finish a season. Life is now. What you are doing now is how you are spending your life.
Hmmmmm…something to think about.
life.lessons.
I started my day off today with a speeding ticket @ 5:50am.
I went from there to teach a spinning class @ 6am. I finished my class, jumped in the shower and rushed to work. I worked hard all day, through lunch (again), and had a 4:30 meeting with a client for a side job I’m working on (as if the 2 jobs I currently have aren’t enough). I left the office at 5:45, nearly 12 hours after receiving my ticket.
But I finished my day by taking a big home made dinner to my friends Chris & Dee. Dee just had major back surgery and was released from the hospital on Sunday after being kept for a week due to some complications from the procedure, which was Monday before last. After dinner, we had some great conversation. The conversation led to a guitar lesson and the guitar lesson led to a fantasy of me on stage at our church leading worship…
It was a great night.
The lesson: slow down and spend more time with the people you care about. The rest really doesn’t matter.

Sadly enough, I am ever so rapidly approaching the ripe age of 30. For most of those years, I have proudly held on to a particular set of bragging rights.
For starters, I have never had a cavity. I really don’t think I had much to do with this…God just knows I couldn’t possibly handle someone sticking a needle in my mouth (I have some issues with needles). But I still brag about it. Secondly, in the 9 years that I have owned my car (a lovely green 1994 Toyota Tercel…she’s a beauty), it has never broken down. This car has been the butt of many jokes (and some insults), but she’s been a reliable little sucker. And I’ve never had a car payment, so HAH!. And thirdly, as if you aren’t already amazed enough, I have never had a speeding ticket.
Until today.
Today was my first go at teaching a 6am spinning class at my gym. For those of you who don’t know me (hello strangers/stalkers), I have been teaching classes at a gym for about 5 years now, and I’m currently just teaching spinning. What is spinning, you ask? Click here. So anyhoooo, today was the first 6am class.
Now I live about 30 minutes from the gym, so I left my house around 5:20am this morning so I’d have a few minutes to get myself together before class. I was driving along, thinking to myself how nice it was that there wasn’t much traffic, jamming out to get myself pumped up for class, and just as I came over the hill right before the gym, I saw Mr. State Trooper sitting at the bottom of the hill. I didn’t even look at my speedometer…I didn’t even hit the brakes…I just watched him make a quick u-turn and turn on his lights.
So I turned into the gym parking lot, blue lights blazing behind me (it was still pitch black outside), and right there, with my participants driving right by me, I got my very first speeding ticket.
At least he reduced my speed so I won’t get any points on my license (I was going 55 in a 35…whoops). He even said to me, “I reduced your speed because you have a perfect record.”
THEN GIVE ME A FRIGGIN WARNING, FELLA.
Oh well…
HAPPY TUESDAY.
looky.looky.
I love how this photographer captures people. (that sounds weird, but you know what I’m saying)
Love, love, love his work.

So I just stopped by Wawa on my way back to work from lunch, and I ran into an old friend from about 6 years ago. Back then, I would have categorized this person as a bit troubled…a heavy drinker, a heavy smoker, a heavy partier in general. Then again, I was right there with him.
So I ran into him in Wawa and we exchanged the usual banter…how are you, what are you up to these days, etc.
Turns out he got himself together, went back to school and is now managing a homeless shelter in a nearby town. He went on to tell me how fulfilling it is (this is a reoccurring theme in my life lately) and how happy he is that he can help people.
It made me feel all warm and fuzzy. And it was just what I needed.
